Hearing Test

HEARING TEST

PURE TONE AUDIOMETRY

Is the key hearing test used to identify hearing threshold levels of an individual, enabling determination of the degree, type and configuration of a hearing loss. Thus, providing the basis for diagnosis and management.

TYMPANOMETRY

Test that involves placing a gently pressure probe in the ear. This test helps to assess pressure in middle ear and thus help to detect different conditions that affects the middle ear.

OTOACOUSTIC EMISSIONS (OAE)

OAE’s helps to assess the functional integrity of outer hair cells in the inner ear. Thus OAE’s will be absent in individuals with problems in outer hair cell functioning. It is an important test in assessing hearing in small children and difficult to test population (MR, Autism, etc)

BERA ( BRAIN STEM EVOKED RESPONSE AUDIOMETRY)

Involves sophisticated computerized equipment sounds are placed in the ear and brain steam response is recorded from electrodes that are taped in patients head.

  • Helps to distinguish sensory (Inner ear) from neural (nerve) causes of hearing loss
  • Helps to localize problems in the brainstem auditory pathway
  • Ability to hear soft sounds in selected area.

SITE OF LESION TESTING

Site of lesion test helps in

  • Comparing hearing in one ear with the other
  • Detecting small changes in signal intensity
  • Ability to hear in the presence of noise
  • Testing ability to hear sentences placed in both ears at the same time.

OTHER TYPES OF TESTING

A person experiencing ear noise (tinnitus) can be tested in several ways

  • Helps to determine whether it can be suppressed / masked by measuring the frequency and intensity of tinnitus

REMEDIAL MEASURES / REHABILITATION

Conductive hearing loss can be determined with the help of otolaryngologist, neurotologist and auidologist.

ELECTROCOCHLEOGRAPHY (ECOCHG):

Is a technique of recording electrical potentials generated in the inner ear and auditory nerve in response to sound stimulation, using an electrode placed in the ear canal or tympanic membrane.

AUDITORY STEADY-STATE RESPONSE (ASSR)

Is an objective test used for evaluation of hearing ability in children too young for traditional audiometric testing. Most children are referred for ASSR after a newborn hearing screen in the hospital indicates the possibility of hearing loss.

HEARING TRIAL AND FITTING

A person with hearing loss which cannot be surgically or medically corrected is rehabilitated with amplification devices. Sravana provide wide verity from traditional pocket model to digitally programmable BTE, ITC, RIC, ITE, ITC ect… of know and established brands
